Hello Students, Learning Coaches and Caretakers,

 

Welcome to Secondary Math 1A! 

 

Your Secondary Math 1 course is completely online and no textbook is required. I do, however, ask that you have a dedicated notebook where you can record notes and examples. You may use these personal notes on Quick Checks and Tests. I also ask that you have access to a calculator with graphing capabilities. If you like, you may use the online calculator at https://www.desmos.com/calculator or purchase a handheld version.

 

Please check that your Learning Coach has populated your lessons by running the Scheduler, this will assign a lesson and Quick Check each day of the semester for a total of 5 math lessons per week. 

 

Our Secondary Math 1 course consists of the following types of activities. The weight for each graded assignment is shown below.

• Participation- 5%

• Daily Lesson and Quick Check- 20%

• Sample Work- 10%

• Portfolios- 30%

• Unit Tests- 35%

 

I allow retakes and grade revisions for all assignments in my course by completing corrections on my Formative website. To access, navigate to https://www.formative.com/ using the following credentials:

Username: firstlastuca, lowercase with no spaces (cindysparksuca)

Password: uca123, also lowercase (uca123)

 

The Planner Tab at the top of your Connexus Homepage is where you can find all scheduled LiveLessons, INO and Office Hour sessions. Continue reading for details on each of these synchronous sessions.

 

LiveLesson- I am excited to be holding whole class LiveLessons Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in our Zoom Class platform. We’ll meet from 12:00-1:00 pm, access this class through the link on your planner. Live classes are required and will count as part of your unit sample work. Please set alarms and plan to meet with us daily

 

INO- “In and out” is a LiveLesson room where all of our secondary teachers and advisors meet each afternoon to assist students with any questions they may have. It’s a one stop shop for connecting with any of your teachers in one location. Our advisors will monitor the lobby and direct you to individual teacher’s breakout rooms.Simply stop by anytime between 2:00 and 3:00 daily using the link on your planner. Come with questions ready as we aim to help as many students as possible within the hour session. This is not required but a fantastic way to access teachers every day.

 

Scheduled Office Hours- I provide 30 minute, scheduled 1-on-1 tutoring sessions from 3:00-4:00pm Monday-Thursday. Please use my booking link at https://cindy-sparks.youcanbook.me to schedule these help sessions. As these sessions are held for you, please be on time and let me know in advance if you are unable to attend.

 

Drop-in Office Hours- I also offer an optional office hour from 9:00-10:00 am Monday-Thursday.  Simply drop-in anytime during the hour, no appointment necessary. The link to this session is posted on your planner page.

 

As you can see I’m here to assist you and have set up numerous opportunities for you to get help. If you’re struggling please come see me! Math can be difficult and sometimes frustrating, please don’t suffer alone. Know that I care about you and your success, come see me and we can create a plan to help you be successful!
